We are looking for cryptocurrency experts with experience in banking/financial investigation and/or relevant education in finance or FINTECH as well as experience tracing cryptocurrency transactions, including asset flow, IP addresses and wallet software. The ideal candidates will be tech-savvy analysts with data processing skills who want to grow and develop by initiating analysis on unique data sets. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to support the national security mission of the United States in the field of data analytics and financial exploitation. The preferred candidate will have a keen understanding of virtual currencies, cryptocurrency exchanges, digital assets, and/or payment service providers. The position will leverage the candidate’s digital savvy and capacity for deep research and creativity to spot non-obvious targets and intelligence within a fluid and rapidly evolving market segment by applying data analytical tradecraft.

Candidates with experience and/or knowledge in the following areas will move to the top of the list:

• Money Services

  • Understanding how ACH and SWIFT messaging works

  • Understanding how payment service providers work, such as Paypal or Payoneer

  • Understanding how cryptocurrency is converted into fiat.

  • Cryptocurrency

• Understanding Blockchains

  • Merkle trees

  • Centralized versus decentralized exchanges

  • Cryptocurrency mining and how it works

  • Proof of work vice proof of stake

  • Public Key cryptography

  • Role of updates such as BIP numbers, ERC20 improvements

• Cryptocurrency Wallets

  • How different types of cryptocurrency wallets work, such as software, hardware, custodial, non-custodial

  • Advantages/disadvantages of each wallet type

  • Private keys versus public keys

  • Seed phrases

• Cryptocurrency Transactions

  • Visibility of transactions on the blockchain

  • Role of nodes in cryptocurrency transactions

  • How fees work

  • Peer-to-Peer transactions

  • Role of Exchanges

  • Over-the-Counter (OTC) traders

• Cryptocurrency Tools

  • Proficiency with commercial blockchain explorers, such as Chainalysis Reactor, TRM or CipherTrace

  • Experience with open source blockchain explorers

• Cryptocurrency Laundering Methods
